Mindless Communication
It is amazing to think about your conversations through the day and realize which of them is mindful and which of my conversations are mindless communications. If I look back on a days conversations with people I realize that besides family and my husband all of my communication is pretty much mindless, phatic, or script. I usually appear to be a very sociable person and yet three quarters of my day is devoted to these mindless sorts of communication. Yet, it is normal those people that engage with me do not necessarily know me and therefore neither wants to know about each others personal lives. I believe that mindless communication is necessary though if we did not have it we would not be able to have those “best friends” and closest family members.

Competitive Strategy
Competitive Strategy is “a clear statement of why a customer should choose a company’s products or service over those of competing companies.” (pge310) It is amazing to see all of the competition between products out there today. All of the products promising the same results as the last one. How do we choose the product that we want when they all promise the same things? At this point you can only go on word of mouth, your gut feeling, and trial and error. We are inundated with advertisements all day long and yet what it comes down to is personal preference.

Trait Leadership
I always new that trait leadership existed. That people who had achieved greatness were always looked up too and you wanted to be like them, but I never knew that first, there was a term for this. Secondly, that there was a person that they defined through looks to be a recognized as leaders in the 1930’s to the 1950’s. The book says that this has died down as far as specific looks and yet there is a different kind of icon today. Society and our media says that to be successful you have to be tall, good looking and super model thin. As for a man they as well have to be tall, good looking, and have a very nice toned body. It is a different society that says that to be in any way successful a person needs to be beautiful. Nothing has really changed. In our earlier years “tall, blond, white males from upper-class or upper-middle class families” was the norm, essentially nothing has changed we just have a broader view of what “good looking” is.
