Personal Meditations #4
Black Friday, Crowds, Pushing, Shoving; all of these words can be used to describe Holiday Shopping. I have never personally been shopping on Black Friday, yet, this year my family like countless others are strapped for cash. Therefore, I braved the crowds this year, it was insane. I am the person that would rather do my shopping earlier than deal with the crowds. I saw women fighting over a t-shirt they both wanted (on clearance), people were waiting in line not to pay but to just get into a store! It is amazing to me that the Christmas spirit is more about gifts in todays society that spending a day with loved ones. I miss the simplicity of making a gift rather than buying one, and the recipient being overjoyed with the gift. I think that our country needs to go back to simplicity in every aspect of our culture. Spend time with our family, bake with your mom, play football with the guys, just enjoy what has already been given to you.
