Billings:Thank you Sarah, it is a tragic scene her today at Robert Kents home. A fire started in the kitchen and quickly spread to the attic, leaving Kent with Second and Third degree burns all over his body. The Firefighters rescued him, unconscious, where he was sent to Valley Medical Hospital.
There is still black smoke encompassing the entire neighborhood, thankfully no other home or person was effected by the fire. The cause of the fire will be put under investigation.

I see a couple of problems here.
1) You didn't rewrite your real news story for broadcast, as requested for this assignment.
2) It's not in broadcast format (ALL CAPS - refer to the examples cited in the text).
The opening is good, but a little too "tragic" for me. I'd reserve that word for death and disaster, and then use it very sparingly. It's best to simply tell the story and leave it to your listeners to figure out that it's tragic. If it is, they will.
Also, cut "thankfully." You're supposed to be a reporter, not a commentator.
