Dialogic Democracy

It is interesting to see who far we as a nation have come since the time that the Constitution was first written by our fore fathers. Dialogic Democracy has given birth to many new ideas. I watch the news almost everyday and everyday I am appalled at what I am listening too. Although I agree with collaboration and everyone being passionate about what they believe in it is so hard watch what is happening in our nation. Also if you feel strongly about a situation if you do not devote your entire lifestyle to that cause you will not necessarily make a change. It is a hard decision whether or not you will actually involve yourself in Dialogic Democracy, because it is a life change.

I too have a hard time listening to the news. I believe if our forefathers had watched cable news in their time that we as a people may not have the constitution we remorselessly ignore today. However appalling the talking heads on television and politics may seem, they are just another product of a populace too lazy and apathetic to remain steadfastly committed to a complex philosophic ideal such as dialogic democracy. About politicians, George Carlin once said, “Everybody complains about politicians. Everybody says they suck. Well, where do people think these politicians come from… they are elected by American citizens. This is the best we can do folks. This is what we have to offer. It's what our system produces: Garbage in, garbage out. If you have selfish, ignorant citizens, you're going to get selfish, ignorant leaders.”
Committing to dialogic democracy is life changing. Paying attention to changes in government and subsequently policy takes too much time out of the average person’s busy life. Voting takes dedication. Engaging in thoughtful discussions on the issues…who has the time? Emailing your representative with your concerns is just too much trouble. Engaging in democracy is a time consuming exercise. And so the furthest most people go in engaging dialogic democracy is casting a vote for the next American Idol.

I don't like to listen to the news. Like you I often do not like what I hear and I feel a lot of the news is filtered. Why don't we hear the truth about the war? The government lets us hear what they want us to hear. I do not get involved in politics because I agree that it is a life changing thing in order to make a change and I am not willing to sacrifiece my lifestyle. It seems like unless you have a lot of power what you do will not change anything. The only way to have change is a massive movement.
